Dear Child Advocate:

I am pleased to announce that on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, the 14th Community In-Service will be held. As always, we need your support to ensure the continuing success of this very important event. This year’s theme is “Helicopter Parenting and Overscheduled Kids…On Course for a Crash Landing?” and will focus on the unintended consequences, both immediate and future, in lives of our kids and families.

Our Keynote Speaker is Dr. Greg Sipes, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and senior partner of Indiana Health Group, Inc. Dr. Sipes is well known for his weekly Fox 59 segment “Straight Talk With Dr. Sipes”. Wrapping up the morning, Dr. Sipes will mediate the student presentation, which will include parents, and present real life examples of helicopter parenting and overscheduling kids, from the unique perspective of both parties, and provide suggestions how families can work through these situations as they come up. Our afternoon will start with a presentation by Voice, a group of youth through Tobacco Free Boone County. We will wrap up with short presentations from a few Boone County Community Resource Organizations and Judge Edens will introduced JDAI, an exciting new juvenile delinquency court initiative designed to shift the focus of community partners in delinquency cases from early stage detention in any but the most critical situations to other, less restrictive alternatives to detention.

The conference will be held in the Witham Health Services Pavilion located at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds, 8:30 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. This is important for law enforcement, teachers, school officials, EVERYONE! We need you there! Please make plans to attend.

Please RSVP by MARCH 7, 2014. Registration is $45. PLEASE NOTE that due to the overwhelming response, registration on the day of the conference is no longer offered.

We look forward to seeing you; thank you for all that you do for Boone County Youth!

Sincerely,

J. Jeffrey Edens, Judge
Boone Circuit Court
